"Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer

Krakauer jumps on the chance to climb Everest when prompted by Outside Magazine to write an article regarding the commercialization of Mount Everest. The novel accounts a first hand experience of a climb on the mountain that goes completely wrong when eight climbers are killed and several others are left stranded. The novel is both interesting and highly informative for the most part, though sometimes it can seem a bit slow. It's remarkable because it is based on a true story and isn't a work of fiction like many books in this day and age. Here is a link to some information pertaining to the 1996 disaster in which Krakauer's book depicts: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996_Everest_Disaster.
